Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten has launched his new charitable foundation, the Jason Witten S.C.O.R.E. Foundation, and kicked everything off with a Christmas party for 30 displaced families at the Speed Zone family entertainment park in Dallas in December.

Witten formed the new foundation, which stands for "Support. Community. Overcome. Rebuild. Educate," in order to benefit and support families in crisis, with the goal to help these families overcome hardship and rebuild their lives.

"I am very excited to be in a position to start this foundation," said Witten. "There are families in crisis all over the country, and this organization is going to be devoted to helping get some of these families back on track. One big part of that is educating the kids affected by domestic violence and other issues and helping them to break the cycle. It's important to let them know there is hope, and I am certainly in a unique position to be able to provide them with a slice of that."

The launch event, hosted in conjunction with the Cowboys Wives Bible Study Group, supported The Family Place, one of the largest domestic violence shelters in North Texas. Jason and several of his Cowboys' teammates and their wives hosted thirty abused women and their witnessing children from The Family Place at Speed Zone, where the players played games with the kids, and the women and children got to meet Santa Claus and open gifts.

"We are honored that Jason Whitten’s S.C.O.R.E. Foundation has chosen The Family Place to be one of its beneficiaries," said Paige Flink, the executive director of the The Family Place. "For women and children living in the fear and chaos of violence in their home, the holidays can be particularly difficult. When we learned about the event Jason wanted to have for our clients, we were thrilled about his generous offer. However, just as exciting as the financial benefits, is the idea that a man of Jason Whitten's stature in the community is going to stand beside The Family Place and say that violence against women is wrong. By speaking out about men’s violence against women, Jason can help everyone in our community know that there is no excuse for family violence. That is a real gift."

In addition to the Christmas party, Witten also worked with Aaron’s furniture to supply thousands of dollars worth of furniture to The Family Place, including couches, tables, chairs, a big-screen TV and an Xbox.

This event served as the official launch of Witten's foundation, which will assist several nonprofit organizations assisting families in need in Texas and in his native Tennessee. A large part of the foundation's focus will be centered on prevention and recovery programs for victims of domestic abuse.

The foundation is a non-profit 501c3 corporation. It is funded entirely by Witten himself and through the generous contributions of individual donors and corporate partners.
